QQI Award (Minor) Level 5– Further Education & Training
COURSE AIM:
The course aims to develop people as Occupational First-Aiders.
The course is run in accordance with the Health & Safety Authority Guidelines and is accredited by QQI.
Assessments are carried out in accordance with QQI Award guidelines and regulations. Certification is valid for two years.
DURATION:
3 Days – 16th, 23rd & 30th May, 2016
On the afternoon of the third day an assessment of the participants is carried out by an Independent Examiner.

Day 3:
Participants must complete and pass the following assessments:
Examination: Written or Oral Test
Practical Test on any aspect of the Programme
CPR
Defibrillator
An External Independent Examiner carries out the practical assessments
CERTIFICATION: QQI Award
Participants who successfully pass the Assessments will be issued with an Occupational First-Aid Certificate recognised by the Health & Safety Authority and QQI
The Certificate is valid for two years and indefinitely on attending a one-day refresher course every two years.
At the end of the course the participant will receive a pro forma letter indicating that he or she has attended the course and passed the assessments pending the receipt of the QQI
Award certificate. Thereafter when the First Aider completes a one day refresher course every two years they will receive a certificate from the training provider, as QQI does not
issue refresher certificates.

At the end of this programme each participant will be able to correctly:
Take Control at an Emergency and call the Emergency Services
Examine an injured or ill person
Be able to control severe bleeding
Carry out Expired Air Resuscitation and CPR
Use Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Treat a Choking victim
Treat an Unconscious casualty
Treat fractures and soft tissue injuries
Treat Epilepsy, Asthma and Diabetes
Treat Burns, Scalds, Poisons and Electric Shock
Treat Heart attacks and head injuries
Treat Spinal injuries, Fainting and Shock
Use appropriate Dressings and Bandaging
Put patients into the recovery position
Carry out Emergency Methods of Rescue

o Definitions, Primary Survey, Diagnosis
o Action at an emergency.
o Examination of unconscious casualties
o Recovery position
o Unconsciousness, Concussion, Compression, Head,
Eye and Facial Injuries.
o Rules of bandaging
o Circulation of Blood, Control of bleeding
o Respiratory System, Asphyxia, ABC Drill, CPR
o CPR, Abdominal Thrusts, Heart Attacks, Strokes
o Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
o Spread of infections
o Fractures and soft tissue injuries.
o Burns, Scalds, Poisons and Electric Shock
o Diabetes, Epilepsy, Asthma
o Emergency methods of rescue
o Assessments
COURSE FEE:
Tuition & Assessment: €1,200 per programme
Each person receives a First Aid Textbook which conforms to the
QQI standard for Occupational First Aid. This is a valuable
resource which can be used after the course.
